Observing the Planets in 2009

The Society held a very successful Star Gazing Party in Dorridge Park on the 1st of April as part of the IYA2900 Commemoration. Some 80 members of the public attended, several of them bringing hitherto unused telescopes with them. The Society will be organising another Star Gazing event on the 15th October (see below), also in Dorridge Park, and in response to the favourable response and the feedback received will be considering running further Public Events.

***** STAR GAZING EVENT IN DORRIDGE PARK, SOLIHULL ON 15th OCTOBER 2009 *****

Knowle Astronomical Society in association with Solihull Council have organised a second Public Star Gazing event in Dorridge Park on the 15th October. The event is part of the International Year of Astronomy being held worldwide to commemorate 400 years since telescopes were first used to look at the sky and 40 years since man landed on the Moon.

The Society will have its telescope there along with a number of telescopes and binoculars owned by Society members who will be available to explain the skies to the Public and maybe answer some of those difficult questions they have always wanted to ask.

The event is free and members of the public are invited to join in the observing from 8pm in the main car park, at the end of Arden Road, Dorridge, where the gazing will be introduced by a short talk from Mark Wright the Society Chairman. Those members of the public who have their own telescopes are invited to bring them along.

A map of the venue (red circle) is shown below.
